Undoubtedly. And yet an apt analogy in the sense that both individuals and houses require protection. Rape and theft both happen to be infractions on a individual’s rights, but that’s not the point I’m trying to make here.

The point is the battle for equal right is not a new one. It didn’t begin with us in the year 2000-and-something simply because a lot more of us are aware of it now. It is a battle that has been fought for over a 100 years now and as far as anyone of us knows, will be fought for another 100 more.

For the same reason that we value women as people is the same exact reason they deserve to be protected in a world that we clearly know is not safe for them, regardless of whatever sentiment we might feel. Or we face another couple 100 years rampant crimes against women which will probably only escalate in scale.

Correct me if I’m wrong but your argument sounds to me like it would also not be in the interests of LGBTQ people and their status as free people to make laws protecting their rights
